Message from the president
The predecessor of this society was founded in 1993 by basic researchers in dentistry and medicine who were interested in hard tissue research, forming a small research community. Unlike large academic societies, we started as a small, handcrafted group aiming to share and develop reliable research techniques and knowledge while considering the ideal form of research (Hard Tissue Research Technology Society). Subsequently, the society evolved under the name Hard Tissue Biology Society, and in 2003, it was renamed and evolved into the Japanese Association for Regenerative Hard Tissue Biology. Currently, we are affiliated with the Science Council of Japan, Division 4, Science, Cell Biology Research (17th, 18th, and 19th terms).
Through our annual scientific conference, quarterly publication of an English journal (Journal of Hard Tissue Biology, indexed in Chemical Abstracts), workshops, publications, and support for various projects, we conduct activities that are distinctive from other academic societies. As fragments of new knowledge and technology increase exponentially, gaining a comprehensive overview becomes increasingly difficult. We hope that participation in our society's activities will contribute to the advancement and sophistication of natural sciences and cell biology in Japan.
In line with the trend of internationalization, we aspire to create a network extending from Japan's unique research groups to Asia, Europe, and the Americas. Currently, the Journal of Hard Tissue Biology has obtained an Impact Factor (IF) and is indexed in Web of Science. While papers traditionally focused on basic biology, we now aim for interdisciplinary collaboration and include clinical cases and original articles from medical and dental fields. Additionally, the JHTB Network Association has been established, separating the academic society from the JHTB journal. Since its inception, Dr. Nagai has served as President. The society has been led by Dr. Otsuka from 2010, Dr. Oura from 2020, and Dr. Nagatsuka was elected in 2023.
